Baduwa’t Watershed Resilience Initiative
A headwaters-to-Pacific Ocean integrated watershed resilience plan, shaped by everyone who joins us
The Baduwa’t (Mad River) is the source of clean water for roughly 94,000 people across the Humboldt Bay region, and so much more.
It is a living watershed of headwaters forests, salmon-bearing rivers, an estuary, and communities who have cared for this place across generations. California’s Proposition 4 now offers a rare chance to ask a hopeful question together: What could this watershed become if all of us who care about it planned for its future as one?
Building a Coalition
We are a growing partnership of tribal nations, agencies, RCDs, academia, local governments, districts, and community organizations to imagine and steward the watershed together.
Proposition 4 dedicates roughly $100 million statewide to watershed-scale climate resilience planning. It was designed for exactly this kind of place: a complex, multi-jurisdictional, equity-centered watershed where tribal nations, agencies, communities, and scientists can come together.
