Forestry and Fuels Program

Reducing hazardous fuels and improving forest health are key objectives of the Forestry and Fuels Program. To this end, we provide a full range of forest management services from planning to implementation.

Forestry and Fuels Program projects run the gamut from landscape level forest thinning with machines to neighborhood fuels reduction hand work for defensible space - and our team provides all the technical work to make it happen.

The Forestry and Fuels Program is split into four Divisions:

Much of our work is funded by state and federal grants, allowing us to provide services at no cost or reduced cost to local landowners.

Prescribed Fire Program

The backbone of our prescribed fire program is the inclusive learning environment created through our cooperative burning.  We host hands-on trainings and cooperative burns to deepen our understanding of land management with the use of long-term prescribed fire application. All of our work happens in and around our highest value resources and assets: our communities.

The Rx Fire program works with our local partners on:

Watershed Stewardship Program

The Watershed Stewardship program staff develop regional plans for restoration work, perform on-the-ground monitoring, conduct public outreach, grow support and funding for watershed treatments, and implement on-the-ground restoration projects. Our work requires cooperation between biologists, hydrologists, geologists, and more!

Much of our Watershed Program work seeks to restore and conserve fish populations, including our Spring Chinook. Some efforts improve watershed health more broadly. Recently implemented and ongoing restoration projects include:

Youth Development Program

Our Youth Development Program strives to empower rural youth in Trinity County and build a lasting connection to the natural world. We do this through our:

  • Indian Valley Stewardship Camp

  • Youth Backpacking Trip

  • Youth Conservation Corps

  • Trinity Together: Cradle to Career Partnership

These youth activities seek to support a thriving Trinity County community by offering opportunities to foster young stewards who will care for our natural landscapes and the communities that depend on them.
