Emery Cowan - Policy and Partnerships Manager (Fire Adapted Communities Network)

Emery works with the Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network to develop training materials and resources, support peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and help coordinate communications strategies and partnerships. Much of her work supports FACNet's role as an implementation partner of the Forest Service's Community Navigators Program.

Prior to joining FACNet, Emery was a program manager for the Rural Voices for Conservation Coalition where she focused on developing learning resources, peer-learning events, and working groups to help practitioners better understand and engage with programs and policies for collaborative land stewardship. Emery has also worked as a local newspaper reporter in southwest Colorado and northern Arizona where she covered everything from local government to public health to forest restoration.

Whether through local journalism or learning groups, Emery is passionate about empowering place-based partners to create and carry forward solutions for adaptation and resilience. Emery earned her B.S. in journalism and Spanish at the University of Colorado and her M.S. in environmental science and policy at Northern Arizona University. She lives in Hood River, Oregon and enjoys hiking, biking, skiing, and running around the beautiful Columbia River Gorge.
